Consultant Obstetricians & Gynecologists is fully responsible for providing a high standard of clinical practice and expertise in the assessment, investigation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients in obstetrics & gynecology. He should be involved in continuous quality improvement activities of the department and hospital to achieve the goals of HMG.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

3.1 Manage the assigned patient’s consultations as per the directives of the Medical Director.

3.2 Responsible for initial assessment, requesting an investigation, analyzing the rest results, diagnosis, treatment, and re-assessment on follow-up to reach a final diagnosis.

3.3 Responsible for patients under his/ her care whenever indicated within the limits of the approved and assigned privileges.

3.4 Prescribe or administer therapy, medication, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent complications or disease.

3.5 Explain procedures and discuss diagnostic results or prescribed treatments with the patients and his/her attendants.

3.6 Monitor the patient's condition and progress re-evaluate/ re-assessment and treat the patient accordingly.

3.7 Refer patient to other specialists when necessary, also consult with, or provide consulting services to, other physicians whenever requested.

3.8 Take daily rounds for his/ her In-Patients and referred patients.

3.9 Document and complete medical records on time and update the progress notes at the same time.

3.10 Authenticate and sign the medical record/ progress notes with date, time, and employee ID number, and stamp every time. He/ She must also review and countersign all junior medical staff notes related to his/her patients.

3.11 Perform diagnostic or therapeutic procedures for which he/ she is specifically privileged according to his/ her qualification, licenses, training & experience.

3.12 Approve the discharge summary, follow-up’s, and medical report of his/ her patients.

3.13 Ensure the implementation of all the approved policies and procedures, rules, regulations, protocols and guidelines, and clinical pathways that guide and support the provision of clinical services.

3.14 Direct and coordinate activities of nurses, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff in patient care.

3.15 Contribute to the development of policies and procedures as part of the continuous quality improvement of his/ her department.

3.16 Serve on Departmental / Hospital Committees as requested.

3.17 Ensure that Islamic Values and Medical Ethics are respected and strictly observed.

3.18 Take call as per hospital policy, as needed, and assume the duties of Head of Department.

3.19 Attend the Code Blue (if applicable) and should be involved in all other emergency codes of the hospital.

3.20 Ensure that all reports and information as required by the Head of the Department/ Medical Director are provided.

3.21 Identify and appropriately transferring all the Medico-Legal Cases on time with all the proper documentation and information to the hospital management as per the hospital policy.

3.22 Participate in the provision of clinical / academic activities of the hospital.

3.23 Play an active role in the education of the patient and his/ her family on a healthy lifestyle. Contributes to awareness and education of the community, in general, on issues related to health.

3.24 Participate in, and lead person-centered care initiatives undertaken by HMG.

3.25 Provide orientation, bedside training and supervision to undergraduate and postgraduate trainees

(interns, residents, and fellows) as assigned.

3.26 Participate in self-and others’ education, training and development as applicable and the department’s educational activities and training programs of the department.

3.27 Enrich patient experience with compassion, respect and dignity.

3.28 Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities.

Job Specifications:

Education/ Professional Qualification

1. Graduate of Medical School, recognized by the Medical Council of the country of origin.

2. Completion of appropriate internship and residency programs.

Experience

1. At least five (5) years of practice in his / her specialty after obtaining a higher degree in a Tertiary Care Hospital.

2. Subspecialty degree or structured subspecialty training preferred.

Professional Licensing / Certification / Training

1. Post-graduate qualifications in the specialty.

2. Membership, Fellowship and/or Board Certification in respective specialty.

3. Relevant licensure from the country of origin, acceptable to the Saudi Commission for Health Specialty and Ministry of Health.

Language proficiency

1. English - Fluent
