Position: Lead Teacher.

Reports to: Academic Director/Principal.

Responsible of: Not applicable.

 

Job Summary:

The Early Education Lead Teacher is responsible for the academic, social-emotional growth and development of all children in their care. A lead teacher develops partnerships with birth parents to engage and encourage parent participation in her educational program.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Administrative Responsibilities

Follows and adheres to the school’s policies and procedures and internal regulations.

Cooperates with administration staff.

Commits to classes daily schedule and assigned shifts.

Attends weekly and quarterly teachers’ meetings.

Meets once a week with Assistant Teachers to review plans for the following week and discuss additional classroom needs/concerns

Conducts supervision on a weekly basis with Assistant Teachers.

Respects confidentiality of staff, families and all matters related to children.

Checks email on daily basis and responds to requests in a timely manner.

Participates in the ongoing development and evaluation of the school’s goals and objectives, and contributes to improve the overall quality of teaching and learning.

Acts in accordance with the school vision and mission statements.

Ensures that Assistant Teachers are kept guided and updated in all matters concerning the classroom and program, i.e. Lead Teacher Meetings, lesson plans, policies & procedures, training received.

Completes yearly performance evaluations.

Provides and participates in functional trainings whenever and wherever needed.

Reports all staffing and classroom concerns to Director in a timely manner.

Participates in ongoing in-service and educational development opportunities provided by the school.

Participates in related training programs and workshops, and conducts them when need.

 

Environment

On an ongoing basis, plans, evaluates, improves and provides developmentally appropriate physical environment in the classroom to create opportunities to meet the changing needs of the developing child.

Uses a variety of activities and instructional methods (songs, stories, media, structured games, art, outdoor activities etc…) to motivate and stimulate children’s abilities.

Creates an inclusive welcoming classroom environment that respects and celebrates cultural differences among children, and employs them for learning purposes.

Monitors children’s interactions and nurture cooperation and sharing.

Ensures a healthy and safe environment for children, decreasing the risk of spreading diseases among them.

Maintains classroom organization and rotate materials on a regular basis.

Assists with regular cleaning of materials and spaces inside and outside the classroom.

 

Responsibilities towards Children

Designs and develops weekly plans, and implements age appropriate lesson plans that address the needs of and interests of each child to nurture and stimulate all domains of children’s development.

Teaches alphabet and numeracy along with personal, social and emotional skills.

Suggests ways on how to improve and develop the curriculum.

Prepares and executes the curriculum monthly plans.

Executes lesson plans in a timely manner and ensure all materials and resources needed are accounted for.

Commits to finish the curriculum lessons according to the prepared schedule.

Executes activities that reinforces pride in religion, and loyalty to the King and the Kingdom in line with each specific age group.

Ensures all children are tracked according to expectations and identifies areas that need extra support.

Supervises children during her time with them, provides responsive care, and stays watchful and alert at all times.

Takes children to and fro various activity rooms.

Gathers appropriate proofs of children work to assess and evaluate their performance and progress to ensure they are mastering the skills on regular basis.

Records milestones children achieve and take appropriate observing note.

Performs on-going developmental evaluations of children as well as individual child assessments throughout the school year, and prepares developmental progress reports as needed.

Maintains accurate, complete and timely children records.

Reports any recurrent symptoms of child abuse or any other problem to School Counselor.

Completes daily health checks regarding hygiene, safety, and overall well-being of the children.

 

Parents

Communicates with parents in a respectful way, avoiding blame, criticism and accusation.

Avoids labelling or categorizing children, such as saying: (your child is hyperactive, your child is easily distracted, your child is a slow learner…etc.).

Builds positive relationships with preschool families and encourage an open-door classroom experience that encourages parent participation.

Maintains daily, open communication with parents and utilize various approaches to ensure child achievements are regularly shared and celebrated.

Participates in parent-teacher conferences and parent meetings, to provide feedback and discuss children's developmental progress, needs, interests, growing characteristics, and concerns.

Presents clear and accurate children’s progress reports during parent meetings.

Checks work email at least twice a day to answer all questions or queries from parents.

Supports school’s orientations and family events as planned throughout the year.

 

* A Lead Teacher should be willing to carry out any other tasks assigned to her as the need arises.

 

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Elementary Education/Early Childhood/Child Development, or a Degree in a related field with course work specifically related to early childhood education.

Experience working in a preschool setting.

Any related teaching and/or training certificates.

 

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that the Lead Teacher should meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

A healthy body that allows her to perform various motor activities without fatigue.

Healthy five senses.

Ability to stand and sit; reach with hands and arms, kneel, crouch, bend, and squat.

Ability to lift and carry up to 11 KG and in case of emergency a 20 KG child.

Clarity of contagious, nerve and physiological diseases.

 

Knowledge:

English Fluency.

Knowledge of children safety and precaution procedures.

Knowledge of children learning assessment methods.

Knowledge on how to manage and instruct a classroom.

Knowledge of children growth characteristics.

Knowledge of most recent teaching approaches and best practices.

Knowledge of how to deal with children with simple special needs, and those with mental or behavioural problems, according to the School Counselor’s plan and training programs given to the teacher by the school.

Ability to use the computer to input developmental data, and upload pieces of evidence for children evaluation.
