We are currently carrying out research to support the development of a Skills Verification programme for Bangladeshi workers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The research aims to provide City & Guilds and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) with evidence relating to the key challenges and opportunities in skilled construction sector employment for Bangladeshi migrants, and the prevailing attitudes in KSA to employing this particular workforce, in order to support the development of a Skills Verification test.
We will be conducting desk research and analysis in the UK, but require assistance from local researchers to deliver a series of in-country interviews with a range of stakeholders in Jeddah and/or Riyadh. Stakeholders will include: senior and human resource executives within the construction industry; policy makers; academics; recruitment organisations; and possibly some foreign workers in Saudi Arabia.
We require two to three local researchers to work with us, delivering interviews and primary research in Saudi Arabia. Face-to-face training will be provided to the selected researchers by The Research Base in the week commencing 13th February 2017 (or possibly the following week).
Researchers will then carry out interviews in person, by phone or Skype, with a range of stakeholders over a three week period, beginning immediately after the training. Interview questions will be both qualitative and quantitative and seek to understand what challenges and opportunities are being faced both by employers within the sector in terms of international recruitment and by the migrant workers themselves.
Once trained and conducting interviews, researchers will be required to report daily to The Research Base, providing recordings of any interviews and allowing any questions to be answered and issues to be raised. As well as being remunerated at competitive rates researchers will receive a letter of recommendation from The Research Base, following successful delivery of the project, to facilitate future employment.
