Geologists are responsible for finding new reserves of oil and gas, and for getting as much oil or gas out of existing fields as possible.
Typial Day/Duties.
Gathers and studies seismic data
Builds geological models of the reservoir or fields
Identifies and defines the properties of a reservoir
Assesses the geological risk
Plans development and exploration wells
How this role fits in with the rest of the industry.
Works closely with other technical departments to find and extract oil and gas from existing fields as well as searching for potential new targets. Mainly employed by Operators or Consultancy firms.
Basic entry requirements include (necessary)
Degree in relevant physical science subject e.g. geology, geophysics, geochemistry.
Employers might also look for (desirable)
Masters or PhD in relevant subject
Relevant work experience through summer work or internship
Related fieldwork or research trips
Typical starting salary may be in the region of
AED28,000 - AED35,000
Typical Salary once experienced
AED40,000 - AED75,000
