We are seeking an experienced Director of Soil and Building Materials Laboratories to lead our laboratory operations and ensure the quality of our testing and analysis processes. The ideal candidate should have at least five years of experience in managing laboratories, with a strong background in soil and building materials testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the soil and building materials testing laboratories
  • Develop and implement laboratory policies and procedures to ensure quality control and accuracy of testing results
  • Manage laboratory staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations
  • Monitor laboratory performance metrics and ensure that testing is conducted within established timelines and budget constraints
  • Collaborate with other departments and external stakeholders to develop new testing methods and improve laboratory services
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory standards and guidelines
  • Oversee laboratory equipment maintenance and calibration, and coordinate with vendors for repairs and replacements as needed
  • Develop and manage laboratory budgets, including purchasing and inventory management
  • Prepare laboratory reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders
  • Stay current with developments in laboratory technology and practices, and recommend improvements to laboratory operations as appropriate

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field, such as, geology, civil engineering, or materials science
  • At least five years of experience managing soil and building materials testing laboratories
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory practices, equipment, and procedures, with expertise in soil and building materials testing
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage and motivate laboratory staff
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory standards and guidelines, such as ASTM, AASHTO, and ISO
  • Proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and other relevant software tools
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage laboratory budgets
