Job Description

1. Evaluate, and examine policies and procedures and systems in place at the universities and special schools to protect assets of the Board of Regents and the regental system.
2. Evaluate the reliability and integrity of information and the efficient and effective use of resources at the universities and special schools.
3. Review compliance with policies, procedures and state and federal laws and regulations.
4. Report results and make recommendations to management of the universities and specials schools, the Executive Director and the Board of Regents.
5. Follow up on the progress of implementation of recommendations and directions to the Executive
Director and the Board of Regents as a result of the reports.
6. Participate in process and internal control improvement initiatives. Assist the Board of Regents carry
out their fiduciary responsibilities.
7. Confer with management staff and meet with other system employees and the general public on a
wide range internal audit issues.
8. Assist management of universities and special schools with identifying and assessing strategic risks. 9. Incorporate training, continuous improvement and accountability into the management of the regental
institutions.
10. Assist individuals who perform operational and financial activities with risk assessments and action plans in their responsibility areas to heighten awareness of major exposures, loss potential, and / or transactional anomalies and facilitate discussions of practical ways to manage or avoid them.
11. Maintain a working relationship with external auditors.
12. Demonstrate high standards of conduct and ethics as well as appropriate judgment, independence and
discretion.
13. Attend senior staff meetings, Board of Regent meetings, and various system meetings.
14. Develop positive public relations in all avenues of the South Dakota Board of Regents.
15. Assist senior staff as deemed necessary.
16. Compose, type, and maintain correspondence, reports, and various other materials and projects.
Submit reports and documents as deemed necessary.
17. Attend training, seminars and workshops as deemed necessary. 18. Perform all duties in compliance with safety standards established by the South Dakota Board of
Regents.
19. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills

-Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, reports, and legal documents.
-Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
-Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format.
-Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, employees of organizations and/or administrators.
