Job Description
• Provide a visual security presence.
• Conduct hourly rounds to ensure that museum visitors have a safe and pleasant experience. While making hourly rounds, check exhibits and displays to ensure that they are in proper working order, and report problems to the Lead Security Officer. Also check stairwells, fire exits, mechanical room, fire extinguishers and pull boxes.
• Ensure that all mechanical systems are functioning properly, checking for and recording:
-Standing water and fire hazards -FAILURE indications on AHU and pump control panels -Temperatures for chillers #1 and #2 -Any FAILURES or RED lights observed during mechanical room checks
• When staffing the security office, the Security Officer shall monitor alarm systems, sign in and out
keys and audiovisual equipment to authorized personnel, admit staff and visitors to the building, check in and sign out deliveries, and answer the security office telephone.
• When not conducting rounds or staffing the security office, the Security Officer must remain at the
Admissions Desk to ensure that only paying (ticketed) customers enter the exhibits and IMAX areas.
• Be familiar with and understand the Center’s Emergency Action Plan and evacuation procedures
and carry out emergency procedures as necessary.
• Control crowds as required.
• Secure the Center’s entrances at the end of operating hours.
• Maintain a shift log.
Skills
-High School diploma or equivalent required.
-Must be at least 21 years of age.
-Must be able to work a flexible schedule, follow detailed procedures, and have good customer service skills.
-Must be able to work collegially and independent of intensive supervision. Evenings and weekends required.
-Experience in the security field helpful, but not required.
