PURPOSE:
Under the general guidance and supervision of the General Manager, directs the engineering (POMEC) function to maintain all facilities in the best possible condition. Is responsible for the physical integrity of all facilities and fully participate in all safety and security programs.
RELATIONSHIPS:
1.Reports directly to the General Manager, but has an operational reporting function to the manager or EAM on a day to day basis.
2.Deals directly with the other Executive Committee members to ensure their operating problems are solved.
3.Meets with ‘customers’ both internal and external in order to solve problems.
4.Liaises with competitor hotels, suppliers and contractors to ensure this hotel is getting value for money in all areas.
5.Meets with other Chief Engineers in his region to exchange ideas to better perform his duties.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Maintains the building and plant properly and efficiently by following the guidelines in the Technical maintenance manual.
2.Continually monitors the energy consumption and implements measures in saving in energy costs using the guidelines in the IHG Energy Manual. Monitors utility bills to ensure charges are correct.
3.Makes regular inspections of the property with the General Manager/Manager in order to identify problem areas and plan for their improvement.
4.Works with the General Manager/Controller to produce CEAs for the improvement of the hotel.
5.Acts as liaison between hotel and outside contractors or technical services on major projects.
6.Ensures that all water systems are treated in order to prevent corrosion throughout the system and to maintain safe bacterial levels according to the IHG Technical Manual and local authority requirements.
7.Ensures all electrical all fire fighting equipment is in good order and the alarm system is tested regularly in line with IHG and local authority requirements.
8.Ensures all electrical equipment is in safe working order in line with current regulations. Also checks that the pressure vessels and lifts are surveyed in a regular basis by IHG’s insurers.
9.Closely formulates and controls the operational and capital expenditure budgets for the department.
10.Maintains the files and records that are necessary to manage the department efficiently.
11.Makes sure purchasing procedures meet IHC standards.
12.Works with the personnel Manager to ensure the Department training and succession plans are adhered to.
13.Leads his staff by example and maintains good employee relations.
14.Uses the most cost effective form of labour to maintain the property.
15.Attends seminars and technical exhibitions and reads relevant publications to keep himself up to date in the Engineering Field.
