Job Description
The Marine Engineer is familiar with technical aspects of naval architecture and/or marine engineering, the administrative aspects of marine repair and the practical aspects of marine operations. The incumbent will be required to undertake assignments and/or coordinate and direct others in the following areas: a. Project Engineering: Coordinate and define new vessel building projects from concept to delivery. Responsible for the identification and integration of classification society and regulatory body requirements into new building projects and modifications to existing vessels. Project value will vary from $25.m for individual vessel alterations where the incumbent is the technical approval authority, to a new construction program valued at $10 mm, where the incumbent is the principal leader of the project team. b. Port Engineering provide a comprehensive, cost-effective maintenance and repair service to various vessels of the Aramco fleet which includes routine vessel inspections, preparation of detailed written repair specifications, labor and material estimates and on-site inspection during refit. Acts as the operating superintendent′s representative to insure proper and cost-effective mode of repair (or replacement) for items of vessels equipment. Provides marine engineering supervision and coordination to the overall accomplishment of the Port Engineering (Refit and Repair) function. c. Maintenance Coordination Provide comprehensive support in the planning and accomplishment of ship repair activities. Specific areas of responsibility will include planning, quality assurance, diagnostics, review/resolution of labor and material estimates and the scheduling of work for accomplishment, consistent with available manpower and other operational and material constraints. d. The individual is expected to work as a team leader or individually on assigned projects. In either case, he is expected to operate with minimal direct supervision on a day to day basis. Monitors all marine related projects such as replacement of tugboats, 1. conducts incident investigations, 2. tanker vetting through automatic tanker vetting system, 3. preparing deficiency telexes to owners, 4. monitoring TPOD budget, 5. updating PIM and Port Booklet, 6. dealing with agent requests for Port books, 7. preparing communications with GSCC, SIGTTO, OCIMF & the IMO. 8. Skills
Holds recognized certificate of competency as chief engineer /class 1. Holds tanker endorsements. Has at least 5 years experience as senior officer on tankers and/or gas (LPG) carrier. Education: B.S. Degree in Engineering. Experience: Ten (10) years' experience in relevant marine service preferably vessel operations and/or vessel construction/repair. Language Requirements: A thorough knowledge of English is required to perform analyses and studies in depth, make professional presentations, and keep up with technical advancements; Arabic not required but considered desirable for expatriate incumbents in this position. Comprehensive knowledge and experience with international regulatory body requirements, classification standards, marine engineering practices, specifications and rules. Working knowledge of economic principles to allow cost/benefit analysis to be part of decision making process.
