Job Description

Job Outline:
To perform and monitor on-site technical and operational services related to the installation, testing and commissioning of electrical distribution equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Perform testing and commissioning of substation protection, control and metering systems such as protective relays, transfer schemes, revenue metering panels, annunicators, etc.

2. Perform and oversee commissioning activities for electrical distribution equipment such as power transformers, generators, voltage regulators, circuit breakers, PT’s, CT’s, HV switches, station service equipment and AC/DC systems such as transformers, chargers, batteries, and transfer switches, etc.

3. Review, develop and modify engineering drawings (protection schemes and settings, controls, interfacing diagrams, etc) for trouble shooting activities to ensure proper equipment operation and system integrity.

4. Interface with client or client representative and other contractors as required for the proper resource scheduling and equipment testing.

5. Provide written procedures for switching, energization and isolation methods for testing and commissioning work, as required.

6. Prepare inspection test plans and certified test reports, as required, for record and approval.

7. Prepare reports and look-ahead schedules outlining works that have been performed as well as works to be performed.

8. Responsible for logging all man-hours expended and tracking against forecasted man-hours.

9. Responsible for ensuring all test equipment used is within calibration and ensuring all team members are aware of testing standards and requirements to be performed.

10. Supervise testing and commissioning activities to ensure they are carried out in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.

11. Ensure that all testing activities are performed in accordance with company and industrial standards for health and safety.

12. Perform additional functions as required by management.

Skills

5-7 years experience in the field testing of substation power distribution equipment and systems as well as programming and testing of microprocessor based protective relays.

Applicant must have strong knowledge of power distribution equipment operation, including but not limited to power transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, motor control centers, protective relays, generators, as well as substation protection schemes.

Applicants must have strong analytical capabilities with the ability to read, trouble shoot and modify single line, control and logic diagrams (both discrete and PLC based) related to equipment and substation operation.

Applicant should have strong computer skills (windows, MS Office), be familiar with ANSI, NEMA, IEC and UL standards, and well versed in the usage of standard test equipment and their applications. Strong communication (verbal and written) skills are a must.
