Job Outline:
To undertake detailed electrical design activities and protection coordination studies for assigned projects and to ensure compliance to project specifications, industry standards and company procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Review job specifications and general drawings from the customer as well as access archived jobs for similar equipment types.
2. Work up high-level and critical schematics and review schematics / wiring diagrams produced by designers.
3. Verify the completeness of the electrical bill of materials, as required, for the project.
4. Continuously monitor and support the draftsmen and designers to ensure schedules are met and procedures are followed.
5. Review and check the complete electrical drawing package for submittal / release, and resolve any outstanding questions or issues that arise during design review.
6. Provide support to customers on all technical issues that arise during design implementation.
7. Responsible for providing engineering support for site activities, when necessary, to ensure proper equipment operation during start-up and commissioning.
8. Review, develop and modify engineering drawings (protection schemes and settings, controls, interfacing diagrams, etc) for trouble shooting activities to ensure proper equipment operation and system integrity.
9. Provide written procedures for switching, energization and isolation methods for testing and commissioning work, as required.
10. Assist site engineers in the preparation of inspection test plans, as required, for record and approval.
11. Responsible for logging all man-hours expended during design and tracking against forecasted man-hours.
12. Ensure that all design activities are performed in accordance with company procedures and that designs meet industrial standards for operation and safety.
13. Perform additional functions as required by management.
5-7 years experience in the field of switchgear, motor control and substation protection and automation design.
Applicant should be familiar with IEC, ANSI/NEMA and UL standards and shall have relevant experience in a design and consulting firm.
Applicant should have strong computer skills (windows, MS Office) with hands on experience using AutoCAD and relay coordination software such as ETAP or SKM.
Applicant should also be very familiar with the testing requirements of LV and MV equipment as well as substation protection and automation schemes.
Strong communication (verbal and written) skills are a must.
