Job Outline:
Independently manage projects assigned and provide support to project engineers to maintain project budgets and timely completion.
Duties & responsibilities:
1. To manage assigned projects both technically and commercially to ensure projects are completed on time, technically compliant and within budget. Prepare and maintain project schedules reflecting project milestones and progress.
2. Participate in weekly project review meetings to discuss the progress of ongoing projects and provide resolution to issues that may exist.
3. Monitor the commercial status of all projects by:
a. Periodically reviewing incurred project costs (labor, materials, transportation, etc) against the budget to determine any budget overruns or potential budgetary issues, if any.
b. Manage project expenditures according to the project schedule to maintain proper cash flow.
c. Periodically track and review project billing history against progress to ensure that invoices are prepared and submitted according to the project schedule.
4. Coordinate with the Tendering Department for project change orders and follow up with the end client for timely approval. Coordinate with the accounts department when a change order is approved.
5. Review and approve project purchase orders to ensure purchase order accuracy (material descriptions, delivery schedule, payment terms, etc) prior to procurement.
6. Coordinate with the Technical Department personnel, when required, for the prompt resolution of project technical issues and general technical support as needed.
7. Initiate project launching meetings for newly assigned projects to outline the project schedule, scope of work and any special requirements.
8. Prepare project closing reports outlining the final project status and highlighting any special areas or issues that may have occurred for future consideration.
9. Interface with the end client and associated third party personnel for resolution of project issues and project meetings to ensure timely project completion.
10. Monitor the work performed by assigned project engineers to ensure quality of work and adherence to departmental and company policies and procedures. Guide and mentor project engineers in project management skills to enhance competencies.
11. Perform additional functions as required by management.
5-7 years experience in project management or similar field related to the management of power distribution/electrical contracting projects.
Applicant should be well versed in the creation and maintenance of project schedules, cost tracking and resource allocation.
Applicant should be experienced in identifying and assessing risk factors and directing project activities to project schedules are maintained.
Applicant should also have a baic understanding of electrical and related civil works to evaluate issues and effectively manage assigned projects.
Applicant should have strong computer (windows, MS Office) skills and have experience in using project scheduling software such as Primavera or MS Projects as well as cost tracking and control software.
Applicant should possess supervisory ability and be results oriented. Strong communication (verbal and written) skills are a must.
