GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

This position is responsible for quality of patient care, clinical leadership, oversight of nursing teammate care delivery, and day-to-day patient management applicable to the treatment of ESRD.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all inclusive.

  • Attends the daily management bedside rounds supervised by the Consultant Nephrologist
  • Assumes an active part in the on-call duty rotations in the center
  • Admits patients from other hospital referral facilities upon appropriate discussion with the physician under whose name the admission is done
  • Evaluates all new admissions and coordinates with the attending physicians and the nursing staff a plan of investigation to establish a diagnosis and a management course.
  • Documents the plans in the patient charts and keeps an updated follow-up in the progress notes
  • Supervises the junior staff in conducting their duties and responsibilities as designated by the center and actively organizes and participates in the unit rounds.
  • Executes all diagnostic procedures required on the patients and trains the junior staff whenever feasible
  • Acquiring skills in performing specialized procedures under the supervision of the senior staff is encouraged and expected
  • Participates in the delivery of medical care in the outpatient services and preferably, arrange for follow-up of own patients discharged from the hospital. His/her outpatient clinic work will always be under the supervision of the Medical Director
  • Participates in the dictation of discharge and death summaries as well as other patient related reports
  • Shares and participates in the departmental educational and training activities: rounds, tutorials, journal clubs, etc.
  • Remains guided by the company policies and procedures
  • Complies with the standards laid down by the Approved International Accreditation Standards
  • Identifies any occurrences not consistent with the operation of the center and/or standard of service to patients, i.e. employees and/or visitors and situations that put patients, staff or visitors at risk for injury or other harm through the chain of command.
  • Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Performs patient assessment: vital signs and all other parameters of the review dialysis orders, determines general physical & mental condition of observations and interview, and assists in determining compliance to dietary or medication regimen and documents for observation
  • Provides chronic hemodialysis therapy and formulates dialysis plans for utility dialysis through various accesses. He/she observes all safety measures applicable to patients with end stage renal disease
  • Administers treatments per the consultant’s orders. Documents regularly on the file.
  • Performs data analysis and assesses and monitors the status of the patients’ laboratory investigations and takes action for any relevant changes or abnormalities.
  • Delivers high quality of patient care in a considerate and respectful manner
  • Ensure implementation and compliance with DaVita Healthcare policies and procedures, and all safety regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that clinic is prepared at all times to handle emergency care of patients including proper training of teammates, equipment readiness, and procedures in place

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, licenses, certifications, and experience required to fulfill the essential duties, include computer skills as required.

Certified as a medical doctor in Nephrology specialty
Minimum 3 years experience in dialysis (5 years preferred)
Certified and registered with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties as Nephrology Resident
Experience and certification with pediatric nephrology preferred
Basic computer skills and proficiency in MS Word and Outlook required; functional proficiency in all computer systems of DaVita within 90 days of hire required

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Fluent in the written and verbal skills necessary to perform successfully the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of the position.

Ability to read, speak, and write English with clarity of expression sufficient to communicate technical and complex concepts to teammates, patients, and patient’s family members in clear and easily and understandable terms required (Arabic preferred)
Ability to understand clinical/medical vocabulary written or spoken in English required (Arabic preferred)

VISUAL REQUIREMENTS:

Vision adequate to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of position including repetitive use of computer monitor.
Ability to pass color-vision test, if applicable

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical requirements can vary. These must be reviewed with management. However, in general, the position requires the following physical activities:

Ability to lift minimum of 5 pounds to maximum of 35 pounds unassisted and able to perform repetitive standing, sitting, stooping, walking, stretching, reaching, and use full range of body motions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Job required tasks routinely involve a potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with bloody, body fluids, tissues, or potential spills or splashes. Uses of appropriate personal protection measures are required for every healthcare provider in these positions.
